The awards ceremony for the 12th Selezione del Sindaco International Wine Contest was held in the Campidoglio, Rome, on July 9. In the Sala delle Protomoteca in front of a packed audience of producers, mayors and special guests from all over Italy, the youngest of the Ceschin sisters, Silvia, received the prestigious awards conferred on the Fiano Salento, gold medal, and the Papanero Spumante, silver medal. Fiano and Papanero, a dry white and a red sparkling, two very different and very exclusive wines, the fruit of the same terroir, which conserves the memory of that which was once Magna Græcia and the Gateway to the East. The sun and soil of Puglia together with modern wine-making techniques and the passion and experience of the estate's founder, Ettore Ceschin, imbue these wines with the fruity aromas and well-balanced, lingering flavours that make them two authentic gems of the South. "Despite its young age," commented Nicola Ragazzo, the estate's sales manager, "for the second year running Capoforte establishes itself at the forefront of Italian wine excellence, thus contributing to the prestige of the Made in Italy brand around the world".
