A name that comes from the past. The origin of the term Negroamaro is rather uncertain and the main schools of thought regarding the birth of this denomination are basically two. The first, traces the name to the repetition of the Latin Niger (black) and the Greek mavros (black): black-black, to emphasize the impenetrable chromatic fabric of the Negroamaro. Instead, the second interpretation prefers the territorial origin: ‘Niuru Maru’, "Nero amaro" in the Salento dialect. Exaltation in popular terms of the main characteristics of this wine.
Pop..to drink! Yes, that's right: the Negroamaro musical group have chosen to call themselves this way to pay homage to the Salento wine. Giuliano Sangiorgi, the leader and front man of the band, explained in more than one interview that the reference to Negroamaro is a dedication to his roots and the exaltation of a product that has its characteristics - robust and with a sweetish aftertaste - the perfect image of the group's music.
A fabulous match. As it often happens with wines that embody the spirit of a territory the best combinations are made with the traditional local dishes.
