Walk through the Castello Aragonese of Taranto
A famed local landmark is a sentinel looking out over the sea: the Castello Aragonese of Taranto. Its history traces back to an ancient era, the Greek period of the 4th-3rd centuries BC., visible still today in its remains. Italy’s Marina Militare has been the steward of its imposing walls since 1883, and it has promoted the fortifications’ importance and elucidated the architecture of its various eras: Greek, Byzantine, Norman, and Swabian-Angevin.
Almost three thousand years of history lie revealed to us in its original walls and floors, its corridors, rooms, and bridges. For us, it is an honour to state that our wines truly breathe not just the brine of the nearby sea, but the history of our ancestors in this ancient land of ours!
